THE VINEYARD
This wine was produced from grapes grown on the Chateau Julien “Estate Vineyard” in South Monterey County’s Lockwood Valley. Located in a unique coastal valley on the western Santa Lucia Mountain Range, the vineyard sits at a 980 foot elevation and is a short 14 miles from the Pacifi c Ocean. The vineyard’s slight elevation, diurnal temperature variations and ideal gravely, loam soil result in wines with intense varietal characteristics unique to Monterey County. With a slightly warmer climate, the Estate Vineyard continues to benefi t from coastal infl uences and Monterey County’s long growing season.

THE VINTAGE
We had budbreak a little later than usual this year due to the cold weather dormancy. The spring however brought intense heat during berry enlargement stage, leading to smaller berries, reduced cluster weight and ultimately more concentrated flavors. As harvest approached in late August, we experienced an average cluster count, with a lower yield due to small berry size.

WINEMAKING NOTES
Aged for 15 months in 1- and 2-year-old French and American medium toast oak barrels after 12 days of warm, temperature-controlled fermentation on the skins.

TASTING NOTES
