BEST BUY - "Rich and sweetly crisp, this is the kind of Chardonnay millions of people love. It has opulent, creamy flavors of pineapples, pears, vanilla, buttered toast, cinnamon and smoky oak. Totally Californian, and a good buy." - Wine Enthusiast Magazine, October 2009
"Subtle aromas of citrus with flavors of grapefruit and tropical fruit; full bodied with a slightly oily texture and well-integrated components with a very long finish. Try with Swordfish." - Sante Magazine, September 2009

The Barrel Selected label was introduced to the Château Julien wine portfolio in 1998. These wines typically have mild tannins and forward fruit, making them extremely food-friendly and approachable upon release. The Barrel Selected wines are aged in one-to-three year old French and American oak barrels, and have been awarded numerous value accolades over the years. Varietals include: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio. THE VINEYARD This wine was produced solely from grapes grown in the Monterey County appellation. Winemaker Bill Anderson recently expanded beyond our own vineyard to explore quality, diversity and unique varietal characteristics through additional local vineyard partnerships. Long term relationships based on nearly 30 years of local wine production has allowed Anderson the fl exibility to draw from multiple sources to produce the best quality and value for our Barrel Selected wines. Our Chardonnay grapes were harvested from vineyards in the cooler northern regions of the county, where the region’s long growing season results in extended fruit hang-time and ideal sugar/acid balance. THE VINTAGE We had budbreak a little later than usual this year due to the cold weather dormancy. The spring however brought intense heat during berry enlargement stage, leading to smaller berries, reduced cluster weight and ultimately more concentrated flavors. As harvest approached in late August, we experienced an average cluster count, with a lower yield due to small berry size. WINEMAKING NOTES One hundred percent barrel fermented and aged for 8 months in 1-year-old French and American medium toast oak barrels. TASTING NOTES Lively pear and vanilla aromas give way to subtle hints of grapefruit and lemon on the palate. A nice texture and balanced acidity with well-integrated components through a full finish.
