2009 Sangiovese
Production Notes
Appellation: Monterey County
Vineyard: Carmel Valley Estate

This wine was produced from one hundred percent Sangiovese grapes grown on the five acre Carmel Valley vineyard at the Wine Estate. As the sole varietal grown on the Estate, the Sangiovese vineyard is nurtured with the ultimate care and attention. It is pruned back to thirteen spurs per vine to maximize sugar development, with canopy management maintained throughout the growing season for full sun exposure. The result is a nice sugar-to-acid balance at the time of harvest.

Vintage
A cold spring slightly delayed vine development at the beginning of the 2009 growing season, and was followed by warm temperatures and variable weather through the bloom period. An extended warm period in late August and early September ultimately advanced grape maturation, and the bulk of the harvest was done during September and October prior to rains. Yields were close to average.

Winemaker Notes
A hint of spice and elegant aromas of black cherry round out soft notes of berry and vanilla on the palate. This mediumbodied wine’s silky, smooth texture boasts a superb acidity right through the fi nish.
